In the beginning of this paper the author discuss how with more and more focus on the serious events that happen every day many cultural events have been cut.  With the spending of less money to support the arts many things that were traditionally held in high esteem have fallen out of favor. But then the author starts to raise the interesting idea that games can be just as much of an art form as a painting or poetry.  This is a new idea that I hadn’t considered before because I have traditionally thought of video games as nothing more than a way to pass free time.

With this focus on making games artier it has increased the number of people playing.  For many people video games used to be something that weren’t played for anything more than bragging rights at the local alley, but in the past 10 years the world has seen a rise in playing video games competitively.   In just this past year games such as League of Legends and DOTA and Starcraft II have sold out multiple stadiums around the world.   In October the world finals were played in a stadium which had previously held the soccer world cup finals.  This increase in demand for games that can be played is slowly replacing for many the traditional forms of art.

Since the release of the Atari gaming system developers have seen a steady rise in the way people want to spend their free time.  With more people looking to be engaged by playing games instead of slowly walking around a museum staring at a painting.  This has affected many people I know who dislike going to art museums because they hold less appeal every day.  I don’t know anyone who would spend money on art before on an entertainment system when decorating their new homes or apartments.

I agree with many of the theorems discussed in this paper.  In one of the later paragraphs the author talks about how even though with electronic literature many of the traditional forms of writing are disappearing some of the older ones still exist.  Poetry is the example that is used in this paper.  While it may never be the same as it once was, there is a resurgence of poetry as people find new ways to incorporate it into their writings.

Using electronics to help the spread of literature will be very valuable in the upcoming decades.  With the spread of Amazon Kindle and free ebook services, like the online Project Guttenberg, the amount of people reading online will only increase.  Using free services like these it has never been easier to be a published author.  Being able to put your book for sale by your self means that the old gate keeps who might have kept your book from being published are no longer an issue.
